True Friends writes to Secretary of State for Transport

posted Aug 7, 2010, 12:19 PM by Richard Cliffe

True Friends have written to Phillip Hammond MP, Secretary of State of Transport and other ministers deciding the fate of the Isles of Scilly Ferry Link project.

The letter dated 31 July 2010 was signed off by major stakeholders who include Penzance Chamber of Commerce, Penzance & District Tourism Association and community group Future Penzance whose campaign supporting  Penzance Harbour plans “A future for Penzance” has  3978 supporters at the last count.  The letter reminded Ministers that although the scheme is controversial for some it is supported by many thousands of people locally and is absolutely vital for the Islanders.

The two page letter to ministers enclosed our recent letter to the Leader of Cornwall Council laying out in detail why the project needed to proceed and flaws in ‘alternatives’ suggested by objectors.  Also enclosed were:

-         The recent AECOM map of Penzance Harbour & Barbican showing regeneration ideas.  This map illustrates how well Option A contributes to opening up the harbour front, an objective everybody wants to see.

-         A detailed rebuttal of the Fof PH petition to the European Parliament.

Supporters of the True Friends will already have received many of these documents in recent emails.  They are all available under the ‘files’ section of this website.
