Letters of Support (for Listed Building Consent) needed!

posted Feb 9, 2010, 3:19 AM by Richard Cliffe
True Friends of Penzance & Isles of Scilly need letters of support sent to the Council to encourage the granting of listing building consent for changes to the Penzance Harbour.  The absolute deadline for comments is 24 Feb 10 but earlier the better.

Example letters can be downloaded from 'file' section of this web site (separate one for Scilly) but is also attached.  You can:

-  Accept the letter as it is and send it in by post or email (do add your name & address etc)

-  Treat the letter as a template and modify it to express your own concerns and personal circumstances- this is the best solution, if you have time, as your letter will have more impact.

The address for posting is at the head of the letter.

The email address is:  planning.west1@cornwall.gov.uk

It is worthwhile explaining your local connection and circumstances.  Hundreds of objections have come from outside Cornwall and quite reasonably more weight can be given to letters from people directly affected (i.e West Cornwall).  That is not to say that people who travel to the Scilly should not comment; the ferry facilities are desparately poor and need improvement.  A ferry service relocated to Falmouth would be significantly longer and create more CO2.   Many visitors to Penzance would also not want to see the Town 'shoot itself in the foot' economically by causing the relocation of the ferry service.

If you have a partner who also wants to comment then send in a letter each in support.  Every individual is entitled to express their opinion on this important matter and numbers matter.
