Review of Local Government Transport Schemes

posted Jun 13, 2010, 6:32 PM by Richard Cliffe

The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, Secretary of State for Transport, announced in a written statement (link) on 10 Jun that planned transport projects requiring Central Government funding would be subject to review as part of the Government's process of reducing the budget deficit.  He stated;

"Local Authorities will also wish to consider carefully whether investing further time and resources in developing such schemes ahead of the Spending Review is justified.  They should not assume that schemes prioritised under the previous Government’s Regional Funding Allocations (RFA) process will be funded to the previous published levels."

"The Government will aim to provide a firm indication on the way forward later this year once the spending review is complete."

In a separate letter to Cornwall Council dated 10 Jun the DOT confirmed that the £42 million IOS Ferry Link would be affected.
